About Me

For the past 20 years, I’ve worked in education, doing my best to create welcoming, inclusive spaces for everyone. As a brain injury survivor, I have a personal understanding of the resilience it takes to face life’s challenges. Seven years ago, I moved from school leadership into fostering and mental health support, where I’ve continued to walk alongside young people with some help from my dogs and horses.

I’ve always been drawn to supporting children who face the greatest challenges. That passion eventually led to the creation of The Therapeutic Tutors CIC, named thanks to a student who once called my cat Misty a “therapeutic tutor.” The name stuck, and today, our animals continue to play a meaningful role in what we do.

As a foster carer, I use a therapeutic parenting approach and also support others who are just beginning their fostering journey. My background and training in psychology, cognitive behavioural hypnotherapy, and Mentalization-Based Treatment (MBT) informs my work, along with Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL), which I offer to care leavers, care-experienced adults, and people in prison.

EFL is especially close to my heart. I hold a Level 4 Diploma from Athena Herd and their Level 7 Post Graduate Certificate in Equine Assisted Services and deeply value helping people reconnect with themselves, with others, and often with horses. Being part of the Athena Herd Community is something I truly appreciate as it reflects a spirit of inclusion and genuine connection. If my way of working doesn’t feel right for you, I’m sure someone in our community will be a great match. 😊

About my practice

At The Therapeutic Tutors CIC, we specialise in supporting children in care, care-experienced young people, and those who care for them. Through Equine Facilitated Learning and trauma-informed approaches, we help young people build trust, emotional regulation, and connection. We also create space for carers, foster carers, social workers, and support staff, to process vicarious trauma, reduce compassion fatigue, and reconnect with their own wellbeing. Our goal is to nurture resilience and restore balance in those who give so much to others.
