Advancing Research and Practice at Postgraduate Level

For professionals seeking to operate at the forefront of the field, Athena Herd Foundation offers the externally accredited Level 7 Postgraduate Certificate in Equine Assisted Services. This rigorous, year-long qualification is designed for those aiming to develop advanced research capabilities and contribute significantly to the evidence base of equine assisted services.

Programme Focus and Structure

The primary emphasis of this postgraduate certificate is on conducting supervised, individual, independent research and in-depth analysis within the equine assisted services domain. Complementing the major research project, the programme includes two targeted taught modules. These modules are specifically designed to equip you with the necessary skills to conceptualise and develop your own research project, and to effectively select and utilise appropriate tools for assessing and analysing the impact of your work.

Learning Experience and Support

Engaging at the postgraduate level involves significant independent study and critical thinking, guided by expert supervision. You will benefit from a supportive academic environment and access to resources designed to facilitate high-level research and scholarly activity.

Entry Requirements

Admission to this advanced programme requires applicants to typically hold a Bachelor's degree (equivalent to UK Level 6) or higher. Additionally, candidates must possess a recognised qualification in Equine Assisted Services (this includes areas such as Equine Facilitated/Assisted Learning or Equine Assisted Psychotherapy).

For applicants who hold a relevant degree and have an established, demonstrable professional practice in the field but lack a formal EAS qualification, consideration for entry may be possible through application via our Certificate of Proficiency process.

Accreditation and Outcome

Consistent with our other programmes, the Level 7 PG Certificate is accredited by the ACCPH. Successful completion of this qualification signifies a high level of academic achievement and research competence, enabling graduates to critically evaluate, conduct, and disseminate research, thereby contributing to the ongoing professionalisation and understanding of equine assisted services.
