This Continuing Education opportunity provides existing Mental Health Practitioners with the core skills required to provide Equine Assisted Services alongside their current practice.
The course includes practical guidance on how to structure a session, different approaches to undertaking work with horses, and how to keep a safe space for all. This is complemented by topics that inform the practice, such as its relevance in the counseling space, clean language, mindfulness and emotional regulation.
As a result of this, CE participants will be able to:
- Understand the foundations and background of Equine Assisted Services
- Understand the transferable nature of the experiential processes
- Understand how to incorporate these practices into counseling activities
- Create and maintain a safe, trauma-informed space for the client alongside the horse, which includes respect for them throughout the process.
- Select the appropriate horse for an interaction
- Oversee equine welfare and wellbeing throughout a session
- Understand complementary skills and practices that can support the work
- Recognize the importance of personal and professional self-care
