Experience
I have been a counsellor for 30 years, and I have also loved horses all my life. When I first discovered equine assisted therapy in 2010, it was as if a fire ignited inside me. I just knew I had to learn how to work with horses in this way.
I started training in the Intuitive Horse Method of equine assisted personal development in 2014 and I now run individual equine assisted therapy sessions, personal development retreats, and leadership development workshops.
I don’t have my own horses anymore but work with a herd of 4 native cobs who live in an area of biodiversity by the sea in East Lothian, Scotland. Working with people and horses is a joy and a privilege and it’s great to be part of an evolving approach to experiential learning and therapy and see it becoming more widely recognised as a powerful therapeutic modality.
One of my core values when doing this work is horse welfare and regarding the needs of the horse in a way which truly respects them. The horse is not a tool to be used but as a willing partner in helping people to grow and evolve.
I am looking forward to working with Athena to provide supervision support for practicing facilitators.
