The Declaration of Compliance

Your application and renewal serve as a binding agreement to all standards outlined below.

Application to the Register, and the ongoing annual membership thereof, signifies your binding agreement to, and a formal declaration of compliance with, all of the following standards and commitments, where appropriate to your practice. The completion of the registration checklist and your signature attached to your application serve as irrefutable confirmation of your declaration of compliance with every point listed in this document. Non-compliance with this declaration can lead to the immediate withdrawal and/or suspension of your membership.

Professional Honesty and Integrity
TL;DR
You must be truthful about your qualifications, credentials, and all submitted information.

As a registrant, you declare that:

  • The information provided by you in support of your application or annual renewal of registration is complete and accurate.
     
  • You shall not claim to have qualifications or credentials you have not earned or offer therapy or coaching in any modality for which you do not hold an appropriate qualification. Neither shall you use designated letters (post-nominals) to which you are not entitled.
     
  • You will not make false or unsubstantiated claims about the benefit of Equine Facilitated or Assisted work.
     
  • You will not become or remain a member of any organisation that has been found by the Register to be dangerous or fraudulent and that may cause detriment to the Register's reputation.
Client Care and Ethical Conduct
TL;DR
Uphold strict client confidentiality, maintain professional boundaries, and respect other healthcare providers.

As a registrant, you declare that:

  • You will never take advantage of, nor enter into, any inappropriate physical or emotional relationships with a client or service user.
     
  • You will keep your client’s affairs confidential at all times, in line with your data protection policy and professional standards.
     
  • You shall never advise clients to discontinue any treatment prescribed by a GP or any other registered medical practitioner and shall at all times respect the integrity of other health care professionals and in no way undermine the services provided through conventional medicine and health care.
     
  • You understand that confirmation of your compliance with professional conduct details may be disclosed to relevant parties, where deemed necessary or legally obligatory.
Adherence to Register Authority
TL;DR
You accept the Register's authority, including its decisions, sanctions, and right to publish notices.

As a registrant, you declare that:

  • You will abide by the Register’s Ethical Basis for Good Practice and Framework of Professional Standards.
     
  • You accept the authority of the Register, including any decisions reached by its Professional Complaints Review Committee regarding any breach of Professional Standards, the Ethical Bases of Good Practice, and this Declaration of Compliance. This includes accepting sanctions such as the suspension or termination of your membership for infringement of these commitments.
     
  • You accept that any findings or sanctions imposed, where considered in the public interest, will be published online on the Register’s Professional Conduct Notices webpage.
     
  • You will make all documents and records available as required under the audit requirements of the Register, including evidence of any complaints raised against your practice.
Professional Practice and Operations
TL;DR
You must maintain insurance, CPD, supervision, and a core set of operational policies for your practice.

As a registrant, you declare that:

  • You commit to having in place, and maintaining compliance with, a core set of policies, including a general set of terms and conditions that support your practice.
     
  • You maintain current professional indemnity insurance sufficient to your area(s) of practice, and you will submit current copies of said policy upon application and renewal.
     
  • You will engage where appropriate with your Local Authority to ensure that all applicable licensing is in place (or confirmed as not required) in line with The Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018 or its regional equivalents.
     
  • You will ensure that you undertake and record continuing professional development (CPD) in line with the Register’s requirements.
     
  • You will ensure that you have appropriate supervision in place in line with the Register’s guidelines. The minimum standard is one hour of supervision for every 25 hours of practice, or at least one hour per eight weeks, dependent upon the levels of Equine Interactions being facilitated. It is noted that supervision levels may be more demanding for other professional memberships you hold.
     
  • You confirm that you have an ongoing professional practice and commit to undertaking appropriate CPD to bring your skills up to date should there have been a gap in your professional practice of over 2 years.
Public Profile and Transparency
TL;DR
Your membership, contact details, and the complaints process must be made clear to the public.

As a registrant, you declare that:

  • You will make your membership of the Register clear on your own website and promotional materials, including the use of the correct logo provided by the Register.
     
  • Alongside your membership information, you will make clear to the public that the Register provides a means of raising concerns or complaints about your service.
     
  • You will maintain correct, complete, and up-to-date personal and professional details on your personal “Profile” page of the Athena Herd Foundation website as required for the Register.
     
  • You are aware that the Register is accessible to the public via the Athena Herd Foundation website and as such you agree that information regarding your name, geographical location, contact details, and membership status is freely available.
Safeguarding and Ethical History
TL;DR
You must declare any unspent convictions and confirm you have no prior disciplinary findings.

As a registrant, you declare that:

  • You will immediately notify the Register of any unspent convictions or any restrictions that may prevent you from working with children and vulnerable adults.
     
  • You have never been the subject of formal disciplinary findings or upheld complaints, nor have you been suspended from any professional or regulatory body.
Commitment to Animal Welfare
TL;DR
You must abide by the Ethical Treatment for Horses framework and provide a clear route to raise concerns.

As a registrant, you declare that:

  • You will abide by and align your practice to the Register’s Framework for the Ethical Treatment for Horses.
     
  • You will provide a clear route for other registrants or your service users to raise concerns about the treatment of horses engaged in the provision of your services.
Agreement to Terms and Conditions
TL;DR
By applying or renewing, you agree to be bound by the AHF Terms and Conditions.

As a registrant, you declare that:

  • In completing your application or renewal, you have read and agree to be bound by the Athena Herd Foundation Terms and Conditions as amended and updated from time to time.
Required Documentation for Registration
TL;DR
A checklist of all documents that must be submitted with your application for review.

The following documentation and confirmations must be provided with your application. Incomplete submissions will not be processed.
